In the Light Heavyweight division, we have a showdown between Alonzo ‘Atomic’ Menifield and William ‘Knightmare’ Knight. The third time’s the charm, as the two have been scheduled to fight each other twice this year. Due to COVID, both fights were cancelled, but as it stands now, we finally will get to see these two men square off. Menifield comes into this fight on a two-fight winning streak, having beaten Fabio Cherant and Ed Herman. With four victories in six fights inside the octagon, Menifield is closing in on a number next to his name in the Light Heavyweight rankings. Meanwhile, Knight is coming off a knockout victory over Fabio Cherant. The victory was Knight’s fourth in his last five, and second in the UFC.
Prediction
This is a good fight and clearly one the UFC wanted, considering they rescheduled it for the third time. Alonzo Menifield is a striker who has exhibited solid takedown defense. His problems inside the octagon have been directly a result of having mediocre cardio. While Menifield showed improvements in that area in his most recent fight, it’s still a concern anytime the knockout artist steps inside the octagon. As for William Knight, he too carries power. With nine knockouts in ten wins, Knight is a dangerous man. Often using his wrestling and devastating ground-and-pound, Knight has shown the ability to stop fights on the feet or the ground.
As for a prediction, I have Menifield winning. I believe that a combination of his takedown defense and power, along with the fact that Knight has little to no striking defense, bodes well for Menifield. In fact, Knight’s striking defense is so poor, he 66% of opponents’ strikes have landed. As we know with Menifield, all it takes is one. So with that said, I predict that Menifield wins via knockout.
